What makes human beings unique? Does Judaism think that an AI machine can acquire a soul? In this episode, Rav David Silverstein is joined by Dr. Aaron Segal of Hebrew University to discuss Judaism, consciousnesses, and the future of AI.
Dr. Aaron Segal is the Michael and Bella Guggenheim Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His primary areas of research are metaphysics, philosophy of religion, and analytic Jewish philosophy. Segal received his PhD in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame, and was an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Yeshiva University before moving to the Hebrew University. He has co-authored and co-edited books on Jewish philosophy, such as
Jewish Philosophy in an Analytic Age. A student of Rav Aharon Lichtenstein, Dr. Segal also received semicha from the Chief Rabbinate in Israel.
